  • The C4K 2008 Climb is upon us!

Those of you who receive the news letter for Climb For Kids, already received this message, but I am posting it here again for those who might have missed it. I may try to send out updates via twitter, but coverage on the mountain is very spotty. Wish us all luck! ----------- Friends, The Climb For Kids 2008 Mt. Rainier Climb is upon us. Chad ...

  • Climb For Kids - About to Conquer Mt. Rainier

It's been a while since I blogged. Sheesh have I been busy and on top of that my Tablet PC died. It had a good run for 4 years, so it was about time I replaced it.  Yes, the rumors are true, I did buy a Mac to replace it, but I'll save that story for another post. Next week, Monday thru Wednesday, 4 other climbers and myself will be ...

  • Climb For Kids - the climb for hope

Today marks a new day for me. With this blog post (and subsequent email many of you will receive from me later), I have officially kicked off a new non-profit organization called ''Climb For Kids''.  As many of you are already aware, and if you are reading my blog, I'm sure you're aware, that my daughters Ella and Emma are survivors of a ...

  • Mailbox Peak - Feb 2007

Michelle, her dog Brutus and I decided to trek up Mailbox Peak today. It's been a while since I went hiking, so this was a welcome retreat. It was raining a little bit, but mostly it was typical February weather. I had very limited gear as I've climbed this peak many times in the past. With Michelle's previous training as an endurance runner ...

  • Don't screw with Mother Nature

Holy Cow, I didn't know Mount Rainier NP was this screwed. According to reports, this is this the first time it has closed since Mt. St. Helen's blew its top in 1980. Now I know why. Pictorial (Note: it's huge)

  • Mt. Rainier semi trip report.

Yes, yes. I've been really bad about posting. Now imagine me with my teeth clenched sounding like Thurston Howell III (from Gillian's Island) saying ''I'm just too darn busy to post''. It's true, really. I have been busy. For example, I just summitted Mt. Rainier again, but I probably won't post a full report. Just no time. You can see the pix on ...

  • We are loved in Belgium and in Italy

Yes, that's one of my favorite quotes from Cliff in the movie Singles....and it reflects the nature of today's post. Recently a friend of mine turned me on to a new location tool from Zipwise called Geomap. You've probably seen the logo at the bottom of the left sidebar on my blog's home page. Anyway, this tool maps IP addresses to a Google ...

  • Trip Report: Dorothy Lake (Bear Lake) -- July 30-31

Bear Lake This past weekend, Ellen and I ventured out to Dorothy Lake in search of Huckleberries. In an effort to maximize our time picking berries, we decided to backpack instead of doing a simple day hike. This enabled us to spend time drinking up every view, and hike far enough to escape the masses of people. Dorothy Lake is a heavily ...

  • hiking community

Ellen and I are going camping and berry picking this weekend, and as I was researching where to go I stumbled upon a really good website for northwest hiking. http://www.nwhikers.net . The forums are pretty active, with lots of relevant and fun information. I'll post pix from the trip when we return on Sunday night.
