  • Sky of blue, sea of green

With the shortened work week, Ellen decided to sleep in a little today. As I saw the sun come up, I knew it was going to be a gorgeous day. Little did I know how gorgeous it would turn out to be. Ella had slept the entire night in her crib without waking up at all. I think she's still pooped from her parties this past weekend.  Since both ...

  • She will be missed

As you may have seen from my Twitter or Facebook updates earlier in the week, my grandmother passed away suddenly a few days ago. She lived a great life to the ripe old age of 90, but her death was sudden due to a freak accident that occurred in Ohio. Well today I flew from Seattle to the middle of nowhere Pennsylvania to say goodbye to her. ...

  • You and me, punk rock girl!

This past weekend was Ellen's birthday and as usual, we had to throw a party. Now, we've done the redneck thing, not once but twice and we've all become Canucks for the night, so what were we to do this time... Maybe someone should have told her that it was her 21st birthday, but alas we missed that. So this time she decided to go punk rock with ...

  • The answer is near

I haven't blogged for a couple of days for various reasons. The biggest reason is that Mother's day was kinda hard on everyone. Sure, we were with friends, but it didn't help that Emma wasn't physically here for Ellen's first Mother's Day. It was really difficult for me to simply buy a couple of cards for Ellen, let alone a gift, so I just kept ...

  • Emma's Memorial Service at CHAC

I know I haven't blogged in a while, but we are still trying to get our lives back to normal. Finally, we are coming up for air and have some really interesting posts regarding Emma, Ella and the rest of us. Who knows, I may even add some tech posts as well. Anyway, things are becoming less chaotic and you'll see more posts over the next few ...

  • Things Emma taught me

A few days ago, I was challenged to write a bit about what Emma taught me.  Emma reminded me of many things I had forgotten, but there were a few things I don't think I'd every really grasped until I met her.  How to love courageously.I thought I understood what love was, and then I met Emma.  She needed me to ...

  • Goodbye Emma

It is with a heavy but peaceful heart that I want to let you know that Emma is finally comfortable and happy.  She passed on this afternoon without pain in her parent’s arms, with the sun shining and the wind blowing through the trees.  Emma was an inspiration to me, as I know she was to many others, and I feel incredible gratitude ...

  • Holding tight

No real news on Emma so far today. She is basically the same. The last blood culture grew positive in 20 hours, which is up from 12 hours, so that is a good sign. Doesn't really mean much, but we are taking every bit of good news that we can get. The ECMO machine continues to do its monotonous job of pulling excess liquid from Emma's body. ...

  • Mountain Women

Soooooooooo sorry. Can you forgive me? I did not mean to exclude women from supporting Emma. Obviously, none of you women will be sporting beards anytime soon. As a couple of you pointed out, women have hair issues in the mountains as well. Ellen was quick to inform me that women are unable to shave their legs while in the mountains, so she ...

  • Separated at birth?

Of course they were separated at birth. That's Ella and her mom (circa 1975) both enjoying tummy time. The funny thing about these photos is that Ella is a such a mashup of Ellen and myself. She has Ellen's chin and my fat face (and eyes).  Ellen had an overbite growing up because her chin was very small... thus we actually believe that ...
