  • A rough week

My grandmother holding my sister and I in 1972. I love the smirk on my sister's face. As you know from my post last week, I attended my grand mother's memorial service in Boswell, Pennsylvania a couple days ago. It was a rough visit and one of the few I've made to my father's hometown in a long while. I was given the nod to write an eulogy for my ...

  • Showing your support for Emma - go the extra mile

Ellen and I have been truly touched by the support from everyone all over the world during the last 3 weeks. It has been nothing short of spectacular. Emma would have been amazed at this outpouring of love from all the people she touched. Some of you have asked for more tangible ways to help us out. Ellen and I already have a house full of ...

  • Light at the end of the tunnel

We are finally seeing all of this long hard work pay off. Today was incredibly special. First was the weighing. Emma is over 2100 grams (very close to 5 lbs) and we expect her to reach her goal of 2500 within 2 weeks, if not sooner. Ella is gigantic, weighing in at almost 8 lbs. Wow. The babies have almost reached full term, as they are at 39 ...

  • Another big milestone

Look Ma, no isolette! Yep, both kids have officially graduated out of their isolettes and I couldn't be happier. This was the view that struck me as my freezing butt walked into their room this morning (I decided to ride my scooter into the hospital -- it as 35 degrees out... Yikes!). Not only are the kids out of their isolettes, but they are ...

  • Million Dollar Babies

I was about to write today's post as a cute little diatribe about the color pink and how awesome Emma looks in everything but that color, but we arrived home today to see these waiting for us. I was speechless. It was 7 envelopes full of insurance bills. Now I looked at all of these and thought , holy crap, I am SO glad we have the gold plated ...

  • Climb For Kids - the climb for hope

Today marks a new day for me. With this blog post (and subsequent email many of you will receive from me later), I have officially kicked off a new non-profit organization called ''Climb For Kids''.  As many of you are already aware, and if you are reading my blog, I'm sure you're aware, that my daughters Ella and Emma are survivors of a ...

  • Pink is not my color

Sorry to disappoint you Dawn, but one my girls is not feelin' the pink train. We've got a ton of clothes for both girls, and a LOT of them are pink. They are all super cute, but we thought we should add a few non-pink girls outfits to their set of clothes. Ellen and I decided to go shopping today for these additional clothes, and you know what? NO ...

  • Yo, check out this MTV Crib

Yo, this is DJ MattyK with MTV Cribs. It's not often we see cribs this tricked out y'all, cause these kidz gotz to be kickin' it old skool. Cribs like this help to bring out yer posse, if you know what I'm sayin'. With a crib so stylin', you gots to have the bling clothes to go wit it too. The best thing 'bout havin yer own posse is that they ...

  • Peanut butter and jelly

The girls are really growing. I now call Emma ''peanut'' because she is smaller and Ella has been adorned the name ''jelly'' as in jelly rolls (I'm sure I'll regret this reference when they are 17 and are looking to rebel against Daddy). Anyway together they are peanut butter and jelly and they are becoming a lot of fun. As you'll see ...

  • Another milestone reached

We have some very good news. The girls are growing a lot! Emma reached 1500 grams last night which is a big milestone for her. If you remember, I spoke about the VSD she has in her heart which will require open heart surgery to correct. If Emma growth became stunted, the doctors would have had to open up her chest to put a band on a major vein ...
